Here’s what they’re not telling you! Like I’ve told you before the union (NATCA) is very left-wing liberal. During a shutdown, all leaves are cancelled but management can stop them from from not coming in. Why, because once the furlough is over ANY days they took is paid and they are charged furlough leave and not annual or sick leave! So they call in knowing they don’t loose any annual or sick leave, get paid! This was a problem after the last furlough that lasted 38 days, why because they got all their leaves charged to the furlough, we had guys with use or loose leaves at the end of the year which caused management to use overtime all over the country to ensure the controllers didn’t loose leave. The union encourages their members to call in and most controllers take at least one day a week during the furlough, plus any leave they had scheduled.
BTW, this generation of controllers don’t give a damn about flights being cancelled or take pride in their job, like everything else it’s all about them, period!

I got a email from my House of Representatives moron telling me how it was all the republicans fault. I sent him a nasty email back. I essentially told him this is purely political and democrats were needed to pass this vote. I told him next to no democrats voted for this. I said even if I understand why this is not the way to handle it and the CR should have been passed. They blamed the republicans when the dems were in charge and told him they couldn’t have it both ways. I said the dems fail the average American and only care about fringe groups and criminals. This is stupid. We just flew and there were zero issues. Flights were on time and even early. TSA staff was great and even cracking jokes. I did thank them for coming to work without pay.

It is different this time. OPM has changed the rules for excepted employees. They will be charged leave for the days they were supposed to report but are out.

I hope you’re right, it’s a bullshit loophole ! My son is a controller in Detroit and the union is telling them nothing has changed. I told my son not to believe them and just go to work!

I just flew last week and it was fine. Came back Sunday afternoon and you’d never know anything was happening. I’m not sure a few days would make that big of a difference unless the lefties got their hooks in them

You won't have any issues at the bigger airports because there are enough controllers to call in overtime if needed. Its the small airports with fewer controllers.
