Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday announced legislation that would raise the minimum wage prison inmates in New York to $3 an hour.

Currently, inmates earn between 10 cents and $1.14 an hour for tasks such as cleaning, maintenance and manufacturing products.

I’m all for teaching them a trade skill or providing them a high school education. I do believe education has a curative effect on violent crime. I also believe any prisoner serving greater than 5 years should be required to obtain their GED AND graduate from a trade skill curriculum before being considered for parole, pardon or release.

Even if you’re a college graduate I still believe learning a skill should be required.

nope .. turn it around .. they got cable tv and all the goodies like we do on the out side .. can't treat them inhumanly ...

so give them standard min wage or a little more ..

then they have to pay for cable tv , pay for there meals , pay for heat and AC and so on .. just like on the out side ..

make them cook , mop floors .. clean windows .. mow the yards , paint walls , coat the black top .. work work work .. ( rehabilitation )
