Why do you want to depend on the government for ammo? A shift away from govt. produced ammo for the commercial market is ultimately a good thing.

Still, there are what... 20-25 million existing AR owners and ammo is a "consumable". People will still want to shoot. Guns also last longer than cars (as long as not horribly abused) and are mechanically simpler and easier to repair. I'd say a guns lifetime is measured in decades, a car is measured in years. I get that machinery to produce ammo can be expensive, but the demand for .223/5.56 isn't going away any time in my lifetime (and I'm a youngin' around these parts).
