Some of those are good spots and some not so much. I know a guy who had a friend who put a real gold brick just sitting in plain sight in his fish tank in the living groom. I never personally saw it but I think that’s why he told me and his son. I’m not that brave.

Drugs are the magic word in reasonable suspicion… LEO doesn’t need anything other than to suspect drugs might be present for “reasonable suspicion“ to be applied.

Ashes on the dashboard? Reasonable suspicion (despite driver being a cigar smoker). Concealed lockable box or compartment? Reasonable suspicion of smuggling (driver was an owner operator, vehicle was a truck tractor and owner kept a handgun inside, legally, not NY). Bent paper clip in ash tray? Reasonable suspicion (driver was a new pipe smoker and left his cleaners at home).

These are either immediate family experiences that I’ve been present for, or coworkers again that I was present for. Reasonable suspicion is a very very wide net with almost zero checks and balances. I don’t like it and I don’t do anything wrong.

Before the DA chucks it and says this is ridiculous, who’s being detained, car torn apart and possibly damaged on the highway shoulder or in a rest area? Who is losing income because DOT and highway patrol have his truck cab dismantled?

It looks bad, it smells bad and while it is indeed on suspicion it is frequently far from reasonable.

What about My old Ford that has the battery mounted under the floor, under a rubber Matt, from the factory in 1951 Also My 2018 Dodge ram has two compartments under the rear floors and the entire back seat folds up to display a storage area. I place My shotgun there when in season. Right from Detroit.

Reasonable Suspicion is NOT Probable Cause... They are two distinct and mutually exclusive terms and measures of law. It's important to know the difference. Ashes do NOT constitute Probable Cause for ANYTHING that would validate a search, sorry. Ammo on the floor of the vehicle, well that's another story. It is you Right to request a Warrant, but circumstances may allow the necessity to preclude that and search anyways (Safety) for one... lolz

Is more simple than that though, don't be an ass, and don't break more than one law at a time! hahahaha, ie, Speeding while transporting 100lbs of Heroin. lmao. But if it's not in plain view and is "HIDDEN" then the expectation of PRIVACY is already demonstrated. The higher degree of Probable Cause would be needed to take a peek!
