If these moron schools and teachers would have allowed punishment and enforcement of kids using them improperly in the first place this wouldn’t be an issue. School districts local to me have cracked down on student cell phone usage. There is now a zero tolerance policy from "bell to bell". How much did this cost? Exactly $0. No magic locking bags, no special anything. Just enforce the existing rules.

That being said... if I had a kid, and provided that kid with a phone for security reasons, no one but me is taking that phone away. Anyone doing so will be hit with theft and child abuse charges.

But, if my kid were to misuse that phone, say as a distraction in class or during a test, let me know. I will make sure that kid doesn't do it again. That would be MY job as the parent.

Local to me schools are not taking phones away. If they are caught using one its escalating penalties, detention, in school suspension etc, etc. Personally I think they should be able to use them at lunch or study hall. As a parent its inconvenient to be in the dark all day when you are suppose to be in the loop to know when to pick up your child at the end of the day. Scheduling is constantly changing with sports, clubs, after school help, etc and none of that is relayed to the parent.
I suppose its no different from when I was in school and there were no phones.
