I have no idea if it's as simple as this, but if your goal is a low fuel cost, it would make sense to produce a fuel domestically.
If the goal is to get off fossil fuels, why aren't we creating domestic jobs so American workers can be building our future? Would that not put money into the economy via hard work, while also achieving the goals of more efficient cars (whether electric, hybrid, or just gas that is more efficient?)
Just seems to me if you're going to decree something, you need an actual plan of execution and a fallback plan for when it fails.
(Btw, this is where our government fails. They iterate, but only at the first step. They never admit their failures and move onto what works, like business does.)

The goal is to make fuel cost a fortune to make us want electric cars. All I keep hearing his how great electric cars are yet they want to lay me $15,000 to buy something so great? I’ve never been paid to get something I wanted in the past. They can’t be that great if they are paying me to want it. Also they are campaigning and pushing these so hard they can’t be great.

Where will all the copper come from ? It will be used a lot in E cars.. Charging stations , and feeder lines from all the solar and windmills.. ... We almost have a copper shortage today.
