I've been curious about the knives offered from Stauer. The ones you often see in magazines, some of them look really nice. Price seems worth while. Anyone ever order one of them?

I took a look at them. Not my style but they look like good knives. But considering I'm not really a knife person take it for what it is. If you do pick one please give us a review.

I never trust a knife under 150 bucks. Not being a knife snob, but good steel costs what it costs , good production costs good money.
I don't have a huge budget for guns or knives but I look at it like this, If I had to pick a gun or knife to defend myself with would I want the cheapest one? If I had one choice which one would I choose? Because that's the one Im going to be carrying.
If its just a cheap beater knife for work or camping , I can see saving a few bucks , if its for self defense , save your pennies and get a good one.

I'm not a big fan of the Cold Steel line of knives. I don't care much for the Tanto styles. They are great knives, sharp as all get out and very strong.
Figured I try one of the Fancy knives Stauer offers, the Legend caught my eye. Kinda a dress knife. One thing so far I dislike is the amount of spam they are sending me. The knife hasn't arrived yet, but I've been bombarded with loads of other offers from them.
Knife should arrive on 9/12. I'll do a write up and possibly some pics. when it gets here.

Everybody has their own tastes, Cold steel is lower end knife, But I cant complain about their ruggedness. I have a recon Tanto San Mai blade and the spine on it is 1/4 inch thick and sharp as a razor blade. The Tanto tips are modeled after the samurai sword blades, Its one of the best possible cutting angles to slice with if your using it in self defense .The ESSE knives are nice but pricey, also the Ontario knives are made right here in NY , but I noticed they are subbing out their cheaper knives to our communists friends in China , Bokker has done the same , the Higher end ones are still made in Germany. I believe they have the tree emblem on them ,Bench made are great knives but a little pricey , Falkniven are used by the Swedish military and are well made but expensive.

Well, the knife has arrived. Can't say that I am overly impressed. Thing is filthy, not only from the oil but it doesn't look like it was cleaned at all. Fit and finish leave a lot to be desired. The metal bolster is not what's expected in a finished knife. The file work is rough between the liners and top of the blade. The wooden scales are rough almost sharp on the ends. With the blade out, open the liners are rough in the hand. The blade is not super sharp, but it can be worked. Pictures are not showing up very well, I'll try and re-do them.
For the money you'd be better off buying a Buck Knife.

It's gonna get some work. Got to get rid of the rough edges. Can't do much about the scales not lining up together! Blade will get some stone work, then we'll see if it's "Damascus" like they claim. (I'm not betting that it is!)

All damascus is chemically ( acid ) etched. And you can grind or polish it off, - the etching only affects the outer surface, the dark & lighter striations that you see are only on the surface. If you were to grind, or file the blade steel just a little - the metal underneath would look just like plain steel. The acid etching brings out the difference in colors. The 'darker' layers contain steel or iron - the lighter layers have high nickel content, which does not darken under etching.
