Noticed today my HK USP has a lanyard loop on the bottom of the frame. Is that a thing? Does anyone actually use that feature? I threw a search in google, it looks goofy
I use them. Mostly when snow shoeing or cross country skiing. In the Coast Guard I gave the deckhand my .45 and kept his M-16 at my feet. I had him use a lanyard/string to keep from loosing in over the side. Would have cost me a case of beer to the NYPD divers.
When I did the grip reduction on my Glock 35, I cut a hole for a lanyard. It was my woods carry handgun. I was paranoid about it falling out of the holster while on a rock scramble or doing some easy bouldering. I used it a few times, but never did again after getting a Hill People Gear chest pack designed for carrying a handgun in it.
Yes, it prevented me from having a really bad time in the Army once. We were flying along the River valley near Fort Hunter-Liggett when I heard a banging on the left side of the helicopter. I started investigating and discovered my M10 revolver was hanging outside slapping the side of the helicopter. Seems as I was loading and unloading troops the holster retention strap snaps on my vest had been broken. The revolver slipped out during our maneuvering and made its way outside the helicopter ( we were flying doors open). The only thing that saved me from severe punishment was the lanyard.
