.338 Win Mag
The last I heard, the "gold standard" was what Riley Defense and Lee Armory (closed now) were doing with the combo of:
I think this standard goes back to the 94' ban days and has basically been doing since NY codified it when it expired (into the SafeACT.) I've heard of other options like the CompMag and things like that, but I don't know how tested those methods are compared to the above.
So:
A) Is the above still the gold standard?
B) What new is promising? (IE, pinning mags for fixed mag and making it non-removeable, different stocks / grips, etc.)
Been a while since I thought about it, but given I'm doing the SKS soon I figure I'll revisit some AK things as well for my options.
- spur grip
- shave the bayonet lug ears on the lug leaving it flat so it only holds the cleaning rod
- no threads
- basic handguard
- fixed stock.
