Some very valid points are made. And I agree that the mental health angle is basically a bust. Most mentally ill people, whether they are depressed/anxious (the common colds of mental illness) or schizophrenic (an example of a severe case) are not violent and will not commit violence with a gun or otherwise. Just as most gun owners whether they own a Joe Biden approved double barrel shotgun or a scary black semi-automatic AR-15 will never ever harm another human being. I'm all for better mental health screening and treatment but that's not what will stop this.

What will stop this is increased school security including armed hardpoints at all entrances and exists with bullet proof glass, locked doors where you have to be buzzed in, and armed school resource officers/security guards and/or armed faculty and staff.

I might be willing to get behind a temporary restraining order where guns can be removed from an individual who makes valid threats like that nutjob did in Florida where he made multiple verbal threats as well as posts on social media. But there must be a legitimate and clear due process procedure where one can get their name cleared and their right restored in a timely manner if in fact they are not a threat or falsely accused. My fear is that this will be abused and eventually everyone will be labeled mentally ill and therefore unable to own a firearm.

We’re still missing the point here. Yes , in today’s world safety measures in place are now something that needs serious consideration. However, we are still missing something big here something that is now a part of the social construct and we need to look at what that could be and here’s why I think that. Back when I was growing up and going to school guns were common place. Hell, Dad hung his guns on a rack in the breezeway 24/7 for all to see as they came into the house. We knew and so did our friends, that if we even so much as touched those guns without permission we were as good as dead. Same thing in Jr. high and high school. Some of us brought guns to school to shoot on the trap and skeet League. Nobody ever though twice about it. I used to walk out of my neighborhood with a shotgun over my shoulder and a pocket full of shells and hunt the nearby fields for game birds. Nobody freaked out. Today’s society is so freaked out about guns and at the same time so desensitized to violence they don’t know if they’re coming or going.
There is something else afoot here and we need to figure out what the hell it is or we’re doomed to loose or 2A rights within the next few years.

Inaction from the NRA and crazy people are going to cause us to lose to the snowflakes. The NRA should draft a good gun proposal that can appease both sides and protect our admendment rights and protect the populace. Then make sure it is passed. Infringing on no one except the crazies and losers. Toughen those laws and make sure the liberal judges quit letting out gun abusers.
