Of course I thought about this: if 16 bullets didn't stop him, doesn't that make the case that we need standard capacity magazines here in New Yorkistan? I mean, obviously it takes more than 7 or even 10 bullets to stop some people...

*sigh* This story has gotten sensationalized and convoluted.

Euclid had an ambulance responding, but the police officers on scene were getting impatient. No matter how many times the police request it, the Cleveland dispatcher CAN NOT send their ambulance into another town. They have no legal authority to do so. That request MUST come through the Euclid dispatcher. That's the way it works.

You can't call 911 and say "I live in the City of Rochester, but I want you to send the Brighton Fire Department." If you want a fire truck, you get the fire department that's responsible for the area where you are. If that department has agreements to bring in other agencies automatically, that's up to them.

Now, if I was on the Euclid ambulance that was responding, and I knew that I was coming from a distance for a critical patient, I would have had my dispatcher check with a neighboring agency to see if they had an ambulance closer. If they were significantly closer, I would have requested that they be dispatched. Sometimes, dumping a call to another agency really is in the best interests of the patient.
