The only correlation I see for the "top 10 strongest gun law" states and their lowest number of gun owners is that the laws are so restrictive (and unConstitutional) that most don't even bother, or choose to risk felony charges over complying with a corrupt system.

First off remember this is a "NewsWEAK" story from a clearly biased, anti-gun publication.
Ask yourself "Where did the writer derive the stats?
How is it they know who and how many have guns? I can see some FFL renewal reports identifying how many guns they transferred during the time of the last Licenses, or possibly reports of NICS Checks, but outside true registration States (even that is limited)...
I'd say this is a hit piece run in an election year to support gun control through manipulated data.

Pew usually gets their numbers from surveys.

FFL transfers or NICS checks wouldn’t give you accurate information in a state like Montana. Private sales are legal and there’s no NICS run if you have a CCW. There are a lot of Montanans who own guns who never filled out a 4473 and it’s perfectly legal.

I like looking into statistics to get another perspective to tell a story.

Take this for example.

Yea know I'm actually pretty encouraged that in our least likely gun ownership states we still have 14% of new Jersey and Massachusetts adult residents "admitting" to owning guns. So odds are the number is higher because gun owners in blue states are notoriously suspicious and likely to hide their property and habits from others. So I'm actually pretty proud that the number of adults in our least gun friendly states the true number of gun ownership is probably not 14% but let's say 20% because it's very likely the numbers are being suppressed and concealed out of justified fear and mistrust.

So 20% equates out to be 1 out of 5 adults in our least gun friendly states are likely armed.

Well done America.

Many of those "surveys" are loaded questions that you would generally agree on, and the end goal of your participation is solicitation for a donation...they really don't give a fuck about your opinion, just your Tribal loyalty.
I find it odd that in over three decades of being opinionated and "Pro-Gun" that the ONLY survey ever asked of me was one from the Local College (that I Alumni) on local issues, one once when Mario Cuomo was running for re-election (and that was a shill)
So, when you read "...most gun owners surveyed agree more gun control is needed..." you can bet the sample size did not represent the populace, and those Polled likely were from specific areas. (Think of calling a bunch of people in NYC versus people in Buffalo)...."Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics"

NY for example, if using post Safe Data on registrations would exclude some 80% of the long guns that had boating accidents post Safe! Meaning "Non-compliance... Anyways!
