A marine corporal was selling arms and ammunition for years until finally caught, Including a javelin missile. How the hell does this happen?

I watched the news segment on this the other day. Apparently he has been doing it for a couple of years. The news article that I watched had a couple of text messages from him to a buyer where he claimed to have multiple “ Javies” !
When he was caught he had over 400,000 rnds. of military ammo

Maybe not so much the javelin, but other ammo... not all that difficult.

(I am only guessing of course)

Exactly. Anything "consumable" is ridiculously easy to steal as its not tracked between issue and return especially if ones NCOs don't care or are not present. If one lived off post or had a place to stash shit they frequency had smoke, flares, simulators and ammo. At demo ranges guys would use the sticky tape on C4 and stick it to the inside of their flak jacket and walk out.
The javelin makes no sense. Was it a live tube or expended? Did it have a CLU?
