Update:
Looks like I'm going to take a lightly-used Remington 770 off of my friend for slightly under $300. Remember that I am intentionally looking for a cheap hunting rifle. He's fired two boxes through it and assures me it functions perfectly. Bought it for his son who didn't like the recoil. We're meeting at the range friday to test it out.

I literally had the 770 next to me at work and went to show someone what I really wanted and boom, the Patriot in .30-06 Marinecote was in stock finally at grabagun. So it's on its way to my FFL!
