If the system is fair then income shouldn't determine how much bail you pay. Race/religion/income would be taken out of the equation.
Yes it would suck for the bail to be insignificant to a millionaire while someone else has trouble raising $10K. Do we want fair or not? One set amount puts everyone on the same playing field.
Make the bail limits state wide so the same crime in upstate is dealt with the same as it is in NYC. I'm not sure who we could trust to set the amounts since this state is soft on real crime.
The Eighth amendment talks about excessive bail. For a homeless guy with no income, wouldn't any dollar amount be excessive? Too many variables to be fair across all lines.
Again, the entire system is broken.
