Anyone else hear about this? So is single payer health insurance comes to NYS what happens to those of us who currently have health insurance through our employer? Does our coverage just disappear and we have get the state run system?

Awesome...really looking forward to waiting six months to see a doctor whom I can normally get an appointment with in a week or two.

Single payer is going to be an unmitigated disaster. Sure, other countries make it work reasonably well but in this state, this country, I have every confidence that it will be a gigantic clusterfuck from day one. Unfortunately, I think both sides of the aisle are doing their best to push us there.

I get my healthcare through the VA. I can tell you that I have had less problems than most but it hasn't exactly been smooth sailing. I was scheduled for heart surgery a few weeks ago. It had been scheduled for over a month. I got a call the afternoon before saying that I was getting bumped because the VA hadn't approved it yet. My new date is Monday and I just got tentative approval yesterday (I still haven't gotten confirmation from the surgeon's office). To make that happen I had to personally call someone every day for over a week to get my case elevated and pushed through the system.

Anyone that thinks single payer is a good idea is woefully ignorant.

My mom was just telling me how her and my dad were talking to a Canadian couple one American and one Canadian who was living in Canada. They moved to the USA after she was diagnosed with cancer and Canada said we won't treat you. She came to the USA and was treated successfully through normal medical treatment not experimental treatment. Come to find out it was basically just too expensive and she was denied. Do we want this?? I agree we spend too much on end of life care, but this woman was late 30's and lived for 15 years at this point.

I guarantee that's a lowball estimate. Probably VERY lowball to try and sell this thing. And just how do they propose to come up with that money?
To pay for the single-payer system, Friedman suggested that New York create a new tax on dividends, interest, and capital gains that would range from 9 percent to 16 percent, depending on how much investment income an individual reports, and a new payroll tax that would similarly range from 9 percent to 16 percent depending on an individual's income.

There are new estimates that I found that say the tax burden will double to quadrupled. The issue is jobs will Leave and scum will enter making this worse.
