Next gun control push in Albany begins

Now that the Republican’s phony display of support for 2A is over, it is gun control advocates turn. On Monday the Senate Codes Committee will take up and advance the following bills:

• S-7762, Enacts the “Scott J. Beigel Unfinished Receiver Act.”
• S-7763, Enacts the “Jose Webster Untraceable Firearms Act.”

As there is no opposition to this, both bills will be passed on by the Senate, possibly as early as Friday. From there they will move on to the Assembly where there is also no opposition. As the scheduled legislative calendar went out the window months ago, I do not know when exactly they will get around to taking them up.

The Codes meeting starts at 1:00pm and will be live streamed off the Senate homepage.

Nonsense. There are plenty of opportunities to advance the 2A at election time. The issue is that nobody from NRA on down is doing a darn thing. Did anyone see a voting guide for the primary? No. That's because nobody bothered to make one. There were reasonable opportunities to knock out a number of antigun incumbents last month or at least run up the costs of their re-election. Did anyone do anything? No. This is especially true for the Westchester DA race. We had a shot at stopping Mimi Rocah but because no-one bothered to lift a finger she won. We're all going to pay for having her in office, not just Westchester. This isn't difficult. Antis are winning largely by default because nobody is challenging them at the ballot box, in Albany or in the media.
