thats bullshit, my attorney became a town justice, and when he was in that capacity, identified as a Judge. Even when he was not acting as a judge, he prefered to be called Judge.

although I have to admit, I doubt he would ever pull a stunt like writing a higher court for a favor

He used his official capacity to get special treatment.
