18 year olds are adults. Trump has no business telling people who are of the age of consent what they can and cannot do with their bodies. That is an overstep by your government.

If this were more explicitly aimed at children, I could see that. I'd like to know about what that entails and what the long term life satisfaction rates are for children that transition. That's the data that is crucial to determine whether it is "maiming" anyone.

Still, even if it wasn't maiming them and satisfaction were high, does that NOT mean that people under 18 or 17 can give consent? You can't say the age of consent is over ones body is 18 and then allow them to do things that would require their explicit consent as an individual to make a life altering choice.

Overall I'm in support of blocking this as James has done since it overlaps with people who can give consent, which is federal overreach. If it were more targeted we have a discussion.

The solution for this is just one court ruling that holds the doctors liable for malpractice once someone detransitions.

If these sorts of situations are happening in the way you describe, and it isn't done with informed consent, then I'd agree.

The thing is it's not how you act, nor your interests that determine your internal gender. If a doctor was looking solely at that then that is incorrect to go about it that way.

There is a book which is drastically better than the show they made out of it called Altered Carbon. There is one particular quote which is more along the lines of the experience trans people face than anything outward people on here would criticize. Because it's an internal feeling of unease for them, not an outward change of interests speech.

It's how you think about yourself. How you see yourself, which then in turn triggers how you react and modify your behavior in relation to your feelings but also social stigma. That's why understanding how they view themselves is paramount in these situations and consent is so important. It comes from inside not outside.

Since our Westchester county executive, Lattimer, is now our House representative, we have a special election for county executive next week.

I just got a robo-call from Jumbo James letting me know that this is "...our chance to vote for the first black Westchester county executive." Right out of the gate: No name, no qualifications, just pure racial identification.

Oh, BTW, as a newly registered Democrat (who changed party just to vote against Jamal Alarm-Puller Bowman in the primary) I will be voting in this special election...for whoever James opposes.

Disagree it's a mental illness. Agree it shouldn't come from taxpayers directly.

But if you have insurance, private or the VA, then I'm ok with that. Either you paid for it with money, or with your blood. But you've paid your part -- time for insurance to pay up.

As for transitioning, and if someone regrets that, maybe the person should've spoken to someone who deals with transitioning people first and had a better discussion in advance. Normally people start small with voice training and hormones, and move onto surgeries later if they feel the same in a year or two, or longer.

I know someone who I don't think she 's had any surgeries at all actually. Just hormone therapy -- and she only started that years after presenting as female in public. So not everyone is jumping into surgeries.
