What could go wrong. Of course the cost would be placed heavily on businesses so this will make them want to come here. Also illegal immigrants are surely covered.
This is part of the reason I’m against single-payer health care. I took a job more benefit and retirement focused than pay focused. For instance I took an $18,000 pay cut and when I switched job my paycheck barley moved. This is because I was paying so much more for benefits at my other job. Will my new job give me a raise to compensate? I’m not sure.I often wonder what the impacts of single-payer will be on people who invested in their future healthcare - for example, people socking money away in HSAs, or teachers who accept lower income in exchange for post-retirement health insurance options.
The former might see some recovery, such as allowing those HSA funds to roll over into IRAs, but I think the latter case would basically just be screwed. Give up income for their entire careers, only to end up not benefiting in retirement and paying higher taxes to boot.
Wow! I predict that if something like this passes, that the social upheaval will be beyond what most people can even comprehend. The current system is a fucking mess,- no doubt. But what this is calling for is insanity. People need look no further than the Canadian model, or other socialist utopias for a preview! What could go wrong. Of course the cost would be placed heavily on businesses so this will make them want to come here. Also illegal immigrants are surely covered.
