NYS firearms dealer licence?

Hope this is the right place to post this. Quick question: I was told in order to deal in firearms in NYS you need a state licence as well as an FFL. Is this licence processed through the state or county. The only application I have seen is on the NYS police website but I haven't been able to find much info on the subject. Anyone have a map to where it's buried?

I'm not an expert, but I think you need the NY license to deal in handguns. Don't think you need it for long guns.
NY has an odd definition of "firearm", ya know.

You need to contact your county sheriff, they will send you a packet including PPB-6, reference forms, instructions, etc. You need your FFL to be accepted as a NYS dealer. Easy as eating mom's apple pie. Of course, have your wallet packed with money to quench the state's thirst for blood money.

Thanks. I thought that was the way the law read but the application on the NYS police site through me off.

I'm pretty sure you need a NYS license for inquiry about NYS licensing before you can request a NYS license for anything, which is everything.
