Ummm.....
Price told the deputy he was attempting to clear his .40-caliber mini Glock. He had it on his lap when it fired.
What the heck was this guy doing what that pistol? WTF does "when it fired" mean? Is that a euphemism for "when he accidentally pulled the trigger?"
Seriously, when clearing a pistol:
1) Keep finger off the trigger.
2) Aim in SAFE direction (i.e. not leg, not lap)
3) Remove magazine.
4) Rack slide to extract remaining round. Repeat step.
5) Lock slide and visually inspect chamber.
I've followed those steps many times with any one of 4 different Glock pistols. They've never just "gone off."

I don't like to think this, but what if he was so stupid he thought just pulling the mag out emptied the gun?

Although the article states that he was "attempting to clear his .40-caliber Glock," I just realized that he did, indeed, successfully clear the pistol (assuming that he'd already removed the magazine). After he inadvertently discharged the pistol into his leg, the pistol was cleared.
