Ohio woman arrested for illegal handgun in Gallatin

Gallatin, New York – On June 22, 2019, the New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested Nickeita M. Givens, age 30, of Delaware, OH, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, a class C felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree, a class D felony.

On Saturday, June 22, 2019, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Troopers conducted a vehicle and traffic stop on a 2010 Hyundai Sonata for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law on the Taconic State Parkway in the town of Gallatin. Investigation found Givens illegally possessed a 9MM Ruger EC9s, and a high capacity magazine.

People need to start realizing that the police aren’t your friends. Even the good cop with the 4 kids and loving wife who doesn’t really want to bother anyone that says “Hello” to everyone isn’t your friend when he pulls you over. His sole job at that point is to charge you with a violation and or look for something else to ruin your day or life with.

Cops can be good people outside of work or at a function or at the gas station when you chit chat with them or when you need help on the side of the road but at a car stop they can never be your friends.

They aren’t supposed to be. They get paid not to be.

Weapons is vague and misleading. My swiss army knife, tire iron and snowbrush can be used as weapons. What happens if I off to a golf game or baseball practice?

Not really. They're still looking, just not finding. And moving violations get boring/not worth the effort after a while.

When they let you off, most times they didn’t want to ticket you anyway. That wasn’t the real reason for pulling you over. The real reason for pulling you over was to see how you react (if you respect them or have an attitude) and to fish for a big catch. IE...DUI, drugs, etc.

But when they pull you over knowing that they ARE going to ticket you, the only way to get out of it is with a get out of jail free card (being a police, military, first responder, dependent, etc.) and that doesn’t always work.

It’s common sense. What are they hired to do when they pull you over? When they don’t give you a ticket, what questions to get you to talk do they ask you? After you answer them and they don’t smell liquor and give your car the once over inside for contraband, why do they let you go?

When they let you go it’s because they weren’t planning on giving you the ticket unless they saw something else. It’s not because you are a swell guy. They don’t know you.

If their intention was to give you a ticket, you would have gotten a ticket. The times that I have gotten a speeding ticket, I was asked hardly any questions. I was immediately asked for my license and registration and when he came back the ticket was issued. All the times I’ve been let go, I’ve been asked 1 million questions. Where you coming from? Where do you work? Have you been drinking tonight? Do you have any drugs in the car?
