Looking at real estate in the area supports your conclusions...I want a small village/town fifteen or twenty miles from such a destination...DIL is a RN and likely would end up working a Hospital, although right now she's a Nurse Supervisor for the School District.
I know real estate has gone stupid, but $350K for a dump isn't exactly encouraging.

Heck, I remember a time when a minor could go to an auto parts store and by a .22 rifle and ammo without any phone calls, permits, permission slips, ...

Hell, I remember times when what could be accessed (both new or surplus) on the cheap by mail order from an ad in the back of Field and Stream or a Sears and Roebuck sales catalog was amazing.

From what I can find it seems Statistical data would show that the number of gun crimes has dramatically increased over time as big brother instituted more gun controls, gun regulations, and gun prohibitions. Maybe society's problem is not the hardware.

We also used to do all that. Tell a young person that, and they would probably think you're being sarcastic. But nope, that's how things were back in the 1970's, ask me how I know...

I was in my teens during the late 1970's, and it sure was a different way of life back then.
