"Other" Conversion to NY Compliant AR

Anyone here know if I'd be pulling an NY no-no by stripping down my "Other," and using the stripped lower to build a compliant AR? The lower is stamped "other," and reading some other forum posts I saw that some 80% lowers come with that stamp designation also.

How would an 80% come with any stamp you didn't put there ? When you bought it the only designation that would be appropriate would be "none".


AFAIK you could even build a compliant rifle from a lower sold as a pistol (just make sure it never has the stock and the short barrel at the same time).

Just don't try to build a pistol or other from a lower that shipped as a rifle, because insane reasons.

I still find this to be one of the most ridiculous things. A receiver is a receiver. Typical bureaucratic nonsensical gun law/restriction whatever you want to call it.

The manufacturers should be recording everything as "others" to solve this problem.

Yes, this is a brand new in box AR, but we did the paperwork before we attached the barrel....

No idea lol. I'm new to the AR scene, and just saw that "factoid" on a few forums. Very possible that it's b.s. But planning on just using that every receiver to build an 18" .223 wylde, and pin the mag so I can keep all the "scary" stuff
