Pet Food in an emergency.

My brother is an active frugal hunter who has raised many a fine dog.

During deer season he cooks up the lungs, rib meat, kidneys, tendons and cartilage for his German Shepherds. He mixes in a little cooked rice. Been doing this for many a years without problems. His dogs get annual vet visits. Never raw, always cooked.

I suppose other critters could yield protein for the dogs but due to parasites I'd certainly cook the meat.

If the shtf and you are left with your pants down, the last place that will be fully stocked with food is PETCO.

I wouldn't hesitate in one second raiding the petstore. You will find antibiotics there too.

I usually have about 100 pounds of dog food on hand. That lasts a couple of months for my two labs. They can get scraps if something happens. While this wouldn't get us through a long term SHTF scenario, it would certainly get us through natural disasters and short term issues.

I keep cheap canned tuna around for my dog, so Yes i will eat my dogs food if need be!
they make great Candles top! (tuna canned in oil, not the dog!)

That is one reason I hunt and fish. Grind up geese,squirrels,deer. It all tastes like chicken.

Raw is no problem for dogs and a preferred way of feeding for many. I incorporate a lot of raw in my dogs diets.

The popo will be there. You are better off ghosting the guy who raided the pet store while he is sleeping at 3 AM. You will get all his pet store stuff, everything in his man cave, and everything in his freezers, cupboards, and everything in his medicine cabinet. Doing those raids at the stores is a high risk proposition - mine is WAY more low risk IMHO.

This is the Westin we have (The model 22) and this thing will grind anything up to the size of an elephant, bones and all. Great for dog feeding.
