Some of it makes sense. Overbooking flights is bullshit. The practice of selling the same seat on any method of transport to more than one person for any given route should be illegal.

I agree with that but you get compensated to stay back. Of course if no one snoozes that there’s still a shortage.
I remember one time I was flying for work and they were offering a $1,500 visa gift card to take a later flight. I called the girl o was going to be working with to see if I could take a later flight and she said no I need you here asap. Of course she didn’t and just wanted help lifting something so I lost out on $1,500 and I surely let her know that.
