Having a gun with a defaced or obliterated Serial Number is a big time Federal Offense same an unregistered Machinegun, SBS, SBR, etc.During the raid police seized a quantity of crack cocaine, cash, and a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun that had the serial number defaced.

Forbes was taken into custody without incident, booked at police headquarters, and then transported to the US District Court in White Plains where he was arraigned on federal charges.

Per 18 U.S.C. 922 (k), “It shall be unlawful for any person knowingly to transport, ship, or receive, in interstate or foreign commerce, any firearm which has had the importer’s or manufacturer’s serial number removed, obliterated, or altered or to possess or receive any firearm which has had the importer’s or manufacturer’s serial number removed, obliterated, or altered and has, at any time, been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.”what is the LAW ?? Lets be sure we differentiating "Defaced" (ground off, welded over, etc.) from Home Made which under Federal Law require a Serial Number (yet) in NY it does for a Firearm (handgun) and if a Dealer get it into his hands.guess FPC and GOA will have to get that law over turned .. unconstitutional .. per NYSRPA vs Bruen .. LOTS of things have been found unconstitutional as a result, but the Laws still exists.... perhaps the Case mentioned will become the "test".From before 1776 and untill 1968 serial numbers were not required .. CGA of 1968
