Predator Season Starts October 1st

Figured I would start a thread, seeing how coyote season starts tomorrow.

Spent the past weekend texting landowners and letting them know when Yote season starts. Plus, I was reaffirming that I still have permission.

All of them text me back, but most said that I have till Oct 15th, and then I couldn't come back till the end of deer season.
So that gives me 2 weekends on the majority of the properties but still have 3 that I can hunt before, during and after deer season.

So hopefully this weekend I will be lucky enough to have video to post.

It's a great time of year to hunt them because the brothers and sisters might have been kicked from Mom and Dads house, but they are still attached to one another. So if you call one in,,, more than likely 2 or 3 will come in at the same time. Plus, they aren't smart yet.

Front Primary Predator is sporting a fresh 18" Preferred CF barrel with Titanium linear comp chambered in 20-250, Factory stock and Halo X50 scope.
Rear backup Predator is the 20" X-Caliber CF .243 death machine, Boyd's At one Thumbhole stock and Rix L3 scope.
Both set up for the superior left handed shooter.
This is the first time in 30+ years that I haven't used some type of .243 chambered rifle as my primary on opening day.
Of course I had to load up some fresh ammo to feed the Predators.
20-250 - 55 Grn Berger HPBT, H4350, Formed Win brass and WLRP primer.
.243 - 70 Grn Nosler BT, H4350, Win brass and WLRP primer.

For some reason, and I probably should have known, I didn't know you had a gun with the X-Caliber barrel. They make really nice barrels.
For not an astronomical price.

Dropped several dogs and had some real nice footage to show, but the X50 scope crapped the bed again and I fear the footage has been lost.
I dropped this female at 20 paces Sunday Pm.
Just have to settle for a pic.

Didn't use the call to get this one in range.
It just appeared on the trail.
We saw some evidence of dogs trying to get into a deer pen and figured it was a good place to sit.

Any useful purpose for the pelts or do you just leave them to rot?

I'll save a dog if the pelt is nice and a farmer is interested in keeping it.
Usually in the colder months or if it's a dog taken on their land.
Mostly the pelts are worth nothing as the cartridges I use aren't fur friendly.
I'm more concerned with eliminating them.

Dropped a dog this morning.
By the time this dog showed up I'd been up for 22 hours, sat in 3 hours of traffic and was fading.
I woke right up when the dogs started to answer back.

I just shot this one 20 minutes ago in the field by my house. I wasn’t even hunting. I shined a light out across the field from my living room window and there they were. There was a second one that ran away as soon as the light hit them.
I’ll take what I can get.
I keep telling myself that I should take up actively hunting coyotes instead of just waiting for chance encounters.

I used my Ruger American in .223, topped with a Leupold scope.

X50's back and they were able to save some video.
This one is the dog that came from a long ways away and I dropped at 20 feet.

My Buddy dropped this female of a pair at 161 yards.
The other dog didn't wait around after the shot.
It had some choppers on it.

Yes.
We target dogs that are showing no fear of humans and/or are terrorizing and killing livestock or pets.
This was the female of the Alpha pair that we've been trying to take out prowling around a horse farm.
We finally caught up to them.
Same spot we dropped a big male last year.
Deja vu all over again.

She was shot 19 mins into the set. Then for whatever fucked up reason, she was shot again at the 19 mins and 2 second mark
Machine Gun Adam shot her the second time. He has the itchiest trigger finger I've ever seen.

Sets are no longer than an hour. The majority of kills come at 15 mins or less

On the second set of the night, 2 of them were at 348yds and they looked small. Keith and I weren't sure what they were, fox or pups. Before they even got to 310yds, Machine Gun Adam fired off a shot. Luckily, it was a miss. They never took off and eventually came in. They were for sure fox lol

3rd set of the night, a deer that was bedded down got spooked, stood up and made its way into the corn field.
At the end of the set, Machine Gun Adam says, did you see that yote to our left.
I said that was a fucking deer. (No it wasn't)
I said I will bet you 50 million that was a deer. (Are You Sure)
I am absolutely positive (I almost shot it)
I said that doesn't surprise me

Adam is actually an excellent shot and a seriously nice kid, but he puts my coyote anxiety to shame. That's why I call him Machine Gun Adam

I shot another one the other night. I shot at another one but I don’t know if I hit it or not.
I also came to the conclusion that the scope on my varmint rifle wasn’t the best, so I bought a new Leupold VX Freedom 3-9x50 for it. I haven't put the new scope on yet and I won’t until I have time to sight in as soon as I install it.

….and I just killed this bastard tonight after he and 2 of his buddies screwed up my muzzleloader hunt.





He fell to my T/C Bone Collector topped with a Leupold VX Freedom 3-9x50.
The load was 100 gr of Triple 7 and a 250 grain Hornady SST.
