Restaurants want more tax money

When will this end? I get the position they are in, but it’s been two years so at some point you have to say if you’re not going to make it well then you’re not going to make it. These places can’t live on government money.

I sympathize a little since government mandates pushed so many restaurants to close. But we can't subsidize them forever. It would have been better not to shut them down in the first place.

We all agree that the government should fairly compensate people when seizing their property, right?

Its their own fault for closing down. If every business in NYC had said " Cuomo, you have no right to shut us down" they would not be in such bad shape. South Dakoda never shut down, that state is doing just fine.

Restaurants were definitely one of the hardest hit industries by government overreach. Many of which are locally owned and operated. I could see telling the big corporate chains like Applebees etc to pound sand, but I personally rarely ever visit the chains. I love dining out at unique places that are locally owned. It's sad to see so many of them that have lost their business to this farce.

And your answer is civil disobedience. And if they didn’t participate, it’s their fault? Their businesses were shut down. This wasn’t just a vax mandate. They were closed except for takeout. Even if they stayed open, risking a fine, what customers before vaccines were going to eat there in the early stages of it.

If the government wants to shut down restaurants "for the public good", then they should pay the restaurant whatever they want to do it.

"we serve 100 dinners a night. I'll give you a 50% discount if we don't actually have to deliver the food or service. But that's as low as I'll go, because you're still making me pay taxes"

I totally agree, but that was how long ago and if they haven’t recovered by now are they a sinking ship? I understand the government, well Biden’s policies( for the most part) led to inflation and lack of workers, but when do we cut them off the government teat?
I also have to say I rarely go out to eat and not many places can get my order right so I have only been visiting one place lately that gets my food right every time and not a long wait.

I would argue that restaurants should be taken off the government teat when the government has fully compensated them for the losses incurred by the government's takings.

That said, I recognize that we are really in an untenable and unrecoverable situation, and at some point people are just going to have to accept that they got screwed over and have no recourse.

At no point should the citizens of the US have to accept they got screwed over. Get the illegal aliens off the govt teat and use those funds to make the citizens whole again. And make sure they're deported back to whence they came.

I agree that we should not have to accept it, much like I assume you agree that at some point we will have to.

I shouldn't have to accept the reality of the SAFE act, but it is reality that I had to accept. At some point it becomes incredibly counter-productive to go on not accepting reality.

Yup. Us too.

Plus they're screwed now by the rising cost of products and transportation that is eating into their profits. That nears they'll need to raise prices which will drive more people to not eat out.

Screw giving them money. Get our economy back on track. Use our own oil and resources so that we're not dependent on other countries. Then prices will stop climbing and people will have money to eat out more.
