I almost bought that exact rifle but with the Begara in 308. I still don't have a 7mm-08 so it might still be in the cards.View attachment 23166 Awhile ago I purchased a new Ruger American All-Weather rifle, cal. 7mm-08 Rem. I had wanted both a stainless steel rifle, and a rifle chambered for this cartridge, for a long time. I have only mildly hotrodded it, removing the factory installed scope bases and installing Warne Maxima rings and bases instead (rock solid and bank vault tough), and topping it off with a Leupold VX-1 3-9x40 for the time being (Leupold VX-3I 2.5-8x36 future plan). The rifle is a solid performer, as is the 7mm-08 cartridge. It has proven itself to be a great deer rifle for the unpredictable weather here in Oswego county. Anyone else have a positive experience with this rifle?
Thanks for the kind words. Seriously, I have owned many rifles over the years, and this has become my fave deer rifle due to among other things it's light weight and easy handling 22" barrel. I have only fired it at 100 yards to sight in for 200, and my groups averaged 1-1/4" with Hornady American Whitetail ammo (139 gr SP). The 7mm-08 chambering is highly also highly recommended, moderate recoil, accuracy and plenty of punch, def an excellent cartridge. For deer and bear in NYS, a man requires no more than what this cartridge offers, believe me.I'm in the market for a 223 bolt action rifle, I found a Remington 788 in 223 for $450 plus transfer. I would like to get the Remington 700 or Ruger 77 in 223.
I might go to Cabelas later and check that American Rifle out. I like the stainless and synthetic stock.
How far have you shot your gun? And what was the grouping.
I'm no long distance shooter but my grandson might develop in to one, at six he can shoot better then most adults I go shooting with.
Nice choice of scopes and a nice rile.
I can't recommend the 7mm-08 enough.I almost bought that exact rifle but with the Begara in 308. I still don't have a 7mm-08 so it might still be in the cards.
I have had similar experiences. Deer do not go far after being hit with this cartridge. I had one drop instantly, one run about 25 yards.I have a Remington 788 in 243 and had one in 308 and another in 7mm08.
I sold the 7mm08 and used the 308 on a trade.
I bought a Ruger 77/357mag last year to use deer hunting back there in Prince Andrews Republic of New Yorkistan. It is stainless with the synthetic stock, I love that gun.
I'll be buying a 223 here shortly. I just have to see the right gun at a decent price.
My brother hunts with a model 7 Remington in 7mm08. He shot a doe with it on the first monday of the hunting season. The deer was standing still, he shot it in the left front shoulder and it ran about 35 yards or so. Blew the deers heart in half. The bullet exited out the other side, she was about forty yards from him when he shot it.

I don’t think a lot of people are shooting in Oswego county right now lol. I put predator hunting on hold cause I hate walking threw this much snow.View attachment 23166 Awhile ago I purchased a new Ruger American All-Weather rifle, cal. 7mm-08 Rem.
