By all accounts it was fired by Ukraine. For the sake of argument, if it was intentionally fired by the Russians, U.S. would still be reluctant to go into a war which will quickly turn nuclear and I can see Washington down playing this incident. For Washington it's an optional conflict, for Russia it's a matter of survival.

In reality it was a Soviet victory, since U.S. had to withdraw nukes from Turkey and pledge not to invade Cuba. Prior to Cuban missile crisis U.S. had nukes in Turkey pointed at the Soviet Union. They were gone after Cuban missile crisis.
If unthinkable does happen today and there is an all out nuclear war, Russian chances of survival are better than ours. Russia has more territory, less people per square mile, more nuclear warheads and currently better technology to deliver them (nuclear capable, hypersonic kinjal missiles).

I'm not sure it matters.

Truth never survives in a war like this. You can't ever trust the headlines.

So, who's missile it is will be decided by who wants to escalate and who doesn't, and the physical reality is irrelevant.

The same people who told you that a face diaper would stop cold virus, the same people who told you heart disease is a better alternative than a cold, the same people who told you the feeble whitehouse resident got 81 million votes are telling you that a country that looks like a speck of fly shit on a map is holding off one of the 3 military superpowers.

Well, Russia is a juggernaut in a defensive war. But they are not pursuing a defensive war here.

And usually when Russia has destroyed an invading enemy, half the fighting took place in Ukraine.

They're just finding themselves on the other side of that now.

Russia will not have any troops in Ukraine this time next year.

S300 missile is an air defense missile. It has limited range.
It was impossible for this missile to be lounged from any territory controlled by the Russians and impact where it did.
This missile has self-destruct feature if it misses the target to limit the damage on the ground. It didn't self-destruct.
Russian missile attack was coming from the opposite direction, so why this intercepting air defense missile was lounged towards Poland?

This incident created small rift between NATO and Ukraine. After Zelensky was put in his place by his Washington bosses, he is walking back his claims.
