SERPA Rediscovered

I have a couple of these holsters. I do not use them all of the time, but occasionally I will wear them. I am not a big fan of any type of mechanical retention on my holsters. Not a huge fan of buttons, straps or anything like that.

As for these holsters, I like them, I like the feel, the fit and the ease of drawing. I do not think there are any design flaws with it.

Like I said, keep your gear clean, don’t roll around in the dirt, keep your fingers off the trigger and those problems go away. I would not recommend it for someone on active duty in the military but for you average plate shooter it’s fine till you roll around in the dirt or decide to Tex grebner yourself.

It’s standard issue for military.

Yup super simple, but then at the same time you try and defend a holster which is designed to well put your finger into the trigger guard and eventually pull the trigger..

1 of 2 things, you dont "train" as much or as hard as you claim, or 2 more dangerously you do and your finger has made it into the trigger guard more than once and your just gambling on when you ND

Or my level of training is fine and anyone who doesn’t follow your thinking is wrong or dangerous. Sorry not sorry, I refuse to blame a piece of equipment for someone inadvertently pulling the trigger when they damn well should not have had their finger in the trigger guard

The key it to have your index finger completely straight, like it should be anyway no matter what holster you’re using, instead of trying to bend your finger to push the button. It’ll release naturally with a proper straight finger.

I have a Benchmade knife with the axis lock, if I flip the blade closed and cut myself is it the knifes fault for being a dangerous design or my own fault for having my finger where it didn’t belong ?

2 your lying about how skilled you are because you dont realize that your finger has gone inside the trigger guard and eventually playing that game will lead to a ND and maybe a round into your leg.. which meh won't bother me any, and not to sound like an ass if that happens I'll probably laugh, asking you are ok then laugh after hearing that you are ok

I know my finger is completely straight when drawing and after the pistol has been drawn. My finger has never come near the trigger guard, let alone the trigger. It is always up on the side of the slide where it belongs. I also have big hands so it’s not like the tip of my finger is on the button anyway. More like the pad behind first knuckle area.

Again I bet the guy in the video says the same thing. How do you know for a fact. Have you filmed yourself drawing under stress so make sure you claims to be accurate?

I have a SERPA holster for my Glock22, but I only wear it when Im out hunting. I could see this holster being an issue if someone doesn't practice with it on a regular basis and gets into a emergency/panic situation.

I think it helps to be a competition shooter. you learn trigger discipline real fast, or you get booted out. I never put my finger near the trigger until I extend the gun towards the target. it's just something I practice on a regular basis?

If you release the gun and keep your trigger finger straight, on the draw, you finger should end up on the side of the trigger guard, NOT on the trigger

But, like I said, I generally don't wear the SERPA unless Im out hunting. YMMV

Everything is about training. Each and every time I get a new holster or a different type of equipment, I train and practice until I become more than aware of the inner workings.

So you have checked that claim on high speed to see if there is any idk unintentional motions oh wait you said you havent

Which means you cant make that claim

Not attached at all. Found it in the back of my closet. Have a whole box full of different holsters. Seems like if it was an inherent design flaw where most if not all users would end up shooting themselves they would be banned from sale by the government.

Train with your equipment and develop muscle memory.

Kind of sad really especially with how there are at the same price point options that are leaps and bounds better not just in the release mechanism design but the material quality and the ability to take apart and clean and service by the user

Didn’t know you were standing behind me when I hit the range. And pontificating about my training doesn’t answer the question in my last post ? If I hurt myself because of improper handling of something is it the inanimate objects fault or mine ?

Well if you are using a product that is designed poorly that facilitates you injuring yourself it's both yours and the products fault

It's the products fault for having said design flaw.

It's your fault for choosing to use subpar product that is known to cause injury

Some people messed up, for sure. You may be one of them by the way you’re all fired up about the subject. But there are millions in circulation and only a handful of cases.

When the Challenger Hellcat came out a few people crashed them on the way home from the dealership. Does that mean the car is flawed or does it mean a few people didn’t know what they were doing and couldn’t handle a car with that much power?

Let’s just say for arguments sake, you have a serpa, and a Glock, you draw put your finger in the trigger guard apply the 5 1/2 pounds of pressure on the trigger to set the gun off, who’s fault is it ? Blackhawk for making the holster, Glock for making a pistol without an external safety or yours for pulling the trigger ??
