"This incident highlights the importance of what TSA and its dedicated security officers do each and every day in protecting the flying public," said Bart R. Johnson, the TSA's Upstate New York federal security director.
I thought pilots could carry on the plane. Maybe he wasn't pary of the program. Federal Flight Deck Officer - Wikipedia
Dollars to donuts that this is a NY thing. His pistol is legal everywhere else and he's probably walked right on through security without screening but not so in NY.
Here they screen everyone and since NY doesn't issue non resident permits to average Joe's, he got bagged.
Just a guess.
I thought so too that pilots could carry now , guess not on SW
... and was just planning to protect himself from contracted security officials. He probably thought he worked for United.
If I stupidly and mistakingly did that at Albany airport, since I have a carry license, I wouldn't be subject to Criminal Possession. They would probably just confiscate it, call the police, and contact the judge once discovered. His occupation should not have anything to do with this story. He was just a passenger that day. He was not working. Guns are not allowed in secure parts of the airport. Guns are not allowed in carry on luggage, been that way for more than 25 years. This is not a NY thing, it is a thing in all states.

If he is not a NY resident and is just an average person, chances are he had no carry license.
That is why I said it was a NY thing.
You cannot get charged with Penal Law 265 (Criminal Possession of a Firearm) if you are exempted from it via a carry license issued from Penal Law 400.
There are no state or federal laws on the books about secure areas in airports like schools or federal government buildings in regards to firearms unless I'm mistaken.
Well I meant the sterile areas too. What would happen if me as a full Carry licensee had a Glock in my carry on by accident and it was discovered and confiscated by the TSA and the police were called?Sorry, I was only referring to the sterile areas of the airport. He was trying to enter one of those areas. I just hate when these news stories talk about the persons occupation. Means nothing in regards to the "crime".
I believe that would fall under Federal law.Well I meant the sterile areas too. What would happen if me as a full Carry licensee had a Glock in my carry on by accident and it was discovered and confiscated by the TSA and the police were called?
What would they charge me with under the NY Penal Laws?
I've searched and searched and have come up empty. The only thing I can find is school zones and federal government buildings.I believe that would fall under Federal law.
I found it. You are correct.I'll post when I get home. Not sure if what I am thinking about fits. If not, will not be the first time I was wrong here.
I found it. You are correct.

Lol! Open carry!I have to admit, I knew I was correct. I didn't know how to copy and paste from my phone.
One of these days though Will, you will find me wrong about something, about what? I have no idea!
A pilot can kill anyone on the plane or ground that he wants. He doesn't need a gun to do it, just his every day job. (see crazy germanwings guy, or malaysia, or 9/11 terrorists)
