States move to roll back firearm permits, over police objections​

Legislators in half a dozen states are considering measures to roll back requirements that gun owners obtain permits and training before carrying concealed weapons, as Republican politicians race to show their support for gun rights ahead of primary and midterm elections this year.

But as the bills progress through state House and Senate chambers, they are running into new and increasingly vocal opposition from an unexpected source: Law enforcement organizations who say allowing more people to carry weapons would add to an already troubling spike in gun crimes.

“When it comes to the Second Amendment in Nebraska, it’s an issue that really hits home,” said state Sen. Tom Brewer, a conservative member of his state’s nonpartisan legislature and the bill’s chief sponsor. “You still have an obligation to have safe operation training. And I think people with any degree of responsibility or intelligence are going to understand that.”

I think that it is not very well thought out for very high populated counties such as Hamilton County,” Ohio's Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey said in an interview.

Criminals already carry guns wherever and whenever they want. I can never understand why some people refuse to allow law abiding citizens to defend themselves. Responsible gun owners won't just shoot up a crowd because they're rioting. Gangs will just hose down anyone in their targeted group during a drive by and not care who they hit but we're painted as the bad guys.

There’s not a lot of instances of vigilantism honestly. I think this moron watched too many movies. However I support vigilantism.

I think that sheriff is way off base . Vigilantes aren’t going to not carry due to a law. They are going to break the law to get their own justice already . Plus, if they plan to use a gun or go to a gunfight, I think they are going to get a long gun over a handgun when they can.
The concern of law enforcement with the lack of a permit of any kind is similar to the concern over transgender and bathrooms. With the transgender rights stuff, if a man is seen leaving in the women’sbathroom or locker room and is stopped by a police officer based on that, it’s grounds for a lawsuit. It doesn’t matter that the man is later found to be a convicted sex offender. Or if that sex offender actually committed a rape just before being stopped by the police based on being a man leaving the women’s locker room, the evidence might be suppressed.
It’s the same with constitutional carry. If a convicted felon is caught with a gun, the whole case and everything else( a murder, robbery, etc) might be tossed out at court. That is a concern and will be an issue wrestled over for years to come

Because they know they can't control criminals, and they CAN control "law abiding" citizens.
And once the law abiding citizens are disarmed, and the criminals run rampant, it is easier to enact martial law and gain full control over everybody.
