Tho I haven't been in a gun shop in quite a while, I do believe some shops still sell AR rifles with a fixed magazine that must be NY Shit hole legal or they would have been raided years ago. Seems like a little investigation into what kind of mag lock the manufacturer of these NY Shithole legal rifles would be easy enough to find if one is truly interested.
Try a little internet searching, beats having this subject arise every six months or so and no one answering with anything definitive after If's and but's.
Its' wrong, unconstitutional and just another step toward the confiscation of firearms from honest citizens.

Granted it's a gray area, but its been done (bullet Buttons) since the 01/13 inception of the SAFE Act.
The Shop that got jammed up way back then was in Monroe or West Monroe if I recall, and not that it should matter, but the Owner was Black and was followed by that community. The most egregious example was the kid that shot up the Tops market in Buffalo, and then Koonta-Kunty James went after the Maker of the device instead of the fucktard that drilled it out so he could commit murder...I suppose we should expect it, after all it's NY and all about the Money.

Yes, you’re correct and I agree with this. The gun show I went to had many riles sold with the magical I have on mine and I can tell you lots of NYSP and Erie County sheriffs would walk by them. The owner was never arrested and his guns never confiscated.

I’d say the bullet button is a no go. All you need to do for the ones I’m familiar with is take a round and push on it and you can drop the mag. Then you can insert a new mag so to me this doesn’t meet the law.

However simple as it may seem, a "Tool" (cartridge) was required to remove the Magazine, it could not be "detached" by simply pushing the Button as designed.
It becomes apparent and after a decade of use that unless you're committing other Crimes or greatly increased the interest Law Enforcement has in you that it's a non-issue and a precedence.
The reason the Magazine Locks that require the action to be split (shotgunned) is that no tools are required, only that a push-pin be shifted and the action tilted open to allow the magazine to be released.

The NYSP will not issue any sort of ruling/law, just a vague interpretation they'll use to arbitrarily deny you...It's easier to tell you "no" than possibly be put on the spot for an answer.
"Detachable" isn't defined in the Law.

Bullet Buttons that keep the Magazine from being detached (dropped) from the Rifle without the use of Tool(s) to remove the magazine have been installed by the thousands since the passage of the SAFE Act...the few people that have gotten jammed up did so because THEY fucked around with the modification...There isn't anything on a gun that can't be "removed" which differs from "detached" and this is something the State really doesn't want to go to Trial because it could expose the whole Law for the bullshit that it is.

If a rifle has a magazine in it, it does not have "The ability to accept a detachable magazine. "

No one here is going to slather an AR mag body with JB Weld or epoxy, because they want the ability to take it out.............. someday, and do not want to run a $50, AR Lower receiver due to "principle."

If the mag well and mag are slathered with good epoxy totally all sides........no one with tools is going to be able to take it out without likely destroying either the mag, or lower receiver.

If the epoxied lower is put into an oven at 300-350* for an hour, the epoxy will turn to rubber and the receiver will survive. Out comes the mag.

Intent goes a long way.............epoxy makes a good effort at legality, if it cannot be accessed and removed with a knife, along side the mag and mag well.

But then.........if arrested with an epoxied AW.........and reasonable efforts to remove the mag are futile..........the law still says CAPABLE................you have to fuck with CAPABLE in the courts.........incapable of removal, may get you off......maybe... but the oven test looms... a poor epoxy job, on an oiled up receiver well............ is legal suicide. It has to work.

So what are the manufacturers that sell AR's legally to NY Shithole licensed firearms dealers that in turn sell those very same AR's to the citizenry?

Absolutely. You can’t remove a magazine without a tool but you can have a fully functioning firearm sitting around because you close the upper and lower then insert a magazine. This is what I question the legality of the bullet button on. I feel having the gun closed and in working order without the action split while being able to insert a magazine makes it violate the law.
To me this makes the rifle can capable of receiving a detachable magazine. The law doesn’t say anything about how the magazine is removed but is it capable of receiving a detachable magazine. Being able to receive a detachable magazine and having a nasty feature is how NYS defines an assault rifle. Having the gun back together, fully functional, and able to receive a magazine violates the law the way the law is written.
