I was working with one of my clients in Binghamton today and the gentleman I was with is a constable in Pennsylvania.

He mentioned Susquehanna County issues permits to NYers.

I called up sure enough they do and 40 minutes later I was in the office for seven minutes and got my Pennsylvania permit.

I didn’t have time to stop at any of the shops for ammo.

Directly in front of the Court House at Montrose where you’d get your permit, is Montrose Sporting Goods. It more of your old fashion outdoor store with boots, clothes, fishing gear, etc. but they sell some guns and ammo. Their prices are higher than the other two places. But they are right beside the courthouse:

I am familiar with those guys (TAG GUN SHOP) from several years back. Very nice people who don't like what's going on in NYS, nor could they care less. I did not know they issue permits as well. I will have to pay them a visit when mine expires. Be warned that they will eyeball you once they see you are from New York but they were still cool about the purchase (non-restricted NY item) that I made when I went there some years ago.

Reason I asked is that I hadnt bought ammo since the background check bullshit started. I thought I had a couple boxes of 9mm in my stash until I needed it to requal for my 218 cert. a couple weeks ago. I had to requal on Tues, went to the local gun store on Sat and it came back delayed. Didnt clear til Tues morning. I managed to come up with 46 rounds between my extra mags and some loosies,although I needed 50, they dont try counting hits unless you scatter rounds all over the target so I got thru. I go down to Pa a couple times a year to a friends house so I'll stock up whenever I go.

I have never been asked for ID buying ammo in PA, and I was buying it here before moving here. Not one time. Some places may be more touchy if they happen to spot a NY plate, though.

Just a data point, your results may vary.

Also, I’ll add another shop… Lock & Load on PA-858, 6 or so miles south of NY-17/NY-434. Guns, ammo, trapping stuff, hardware, wood pellets and propane, hunting and fishing licenses… prices are a bit on the high side, usually right on MSRP for guns, but their ammo stock is very comprehensive.

Last time I was in they had cases of 9mm and 5.56… didn’t see .308 but I wasn’t exactly looking for it.

They asked me for a DL. They frowned when they saw it but I told them that I disagreed with all of the NYS B/S. They warmed up after that and had a good selection of ammo and gently used equipment, from what I can remember.

Length of time is probably irrelevant. I wouldn’t worry about it.
