Apparently too many BLM were being shot by cops and others, for brandishing toy guns. Not a big problem, on balance.

HOWEVER, dewats, and replica WWI arms are now considered either toy guns, banned for not being orange or pink, or are now ghost guns.
Plenty of replica, wall hanging Thompsons and Schmiesers have been sold over the last 25 years.

I built a '28 Thompson from a kit, when they were cheap, with aluminum receiver............I sold it a few years ago.

Probably a felony today.

I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO KEEP BUYING REAL FUCKING GUNS.

As an aside it is illegal now to use bear spray on car jackers in NYS, as they might be hurt. Even small canisters might cause you to be arrested for assault, or sued.

This is kinda old news. It was signed in august and went into effect a month ago. Its a stupid law, a criminal who wants to use a toy gun obviously couldn't just spray paint it black.
The wall hanging thompson example already in possession would not be affected. This is for new sales, not existing. Unless you are using it committing a crime I do not see a law that is broken.

How are toy guns banned? I don't agree with any restrictions period, but my understanding is they have a lot of insane requirements in order to sell them. Once you have possession there aren't any laws around ownership once possession as been taken.

The language reads:

No person, firm, corporation or agent or employee thereof shall import, manufacture, sell, hold for sale or distribute within the state any imitation weapon unless...

So as long as the markings are present during transfer, it does not mention removing such markings during the period of ownership at all, what-so-ever. Just that the initial sale has requirements, and that the maximum penalty is:

... a judgment enjoining the continuance of such violation and for a civil penalty of not more than one thousand dollars for each violation.

So she didn't ban them, she just made it more difficult to acquire them. Still none of her fucking business, but that is what was actually done. There is no penal reference here, just a civil penalty and a court order to stop doing it if you're selling them like that.
