Transferring Permit to another county

Anyone here ever transfer a permit to another county or have advice about it? I just moved up to Lewis county and I am going to go down to the clerk's office Tuesday to see about getting my permit transferred up here.

I figure going in with an unrestricted permit and getting one in return should be a no brainier but one never knows these days.

It just depends on the county and the judge you end up getting. Some people have gone from having an unrestricted in their old county to only getting a restricted when they moved to their new county and vice versa. Best thing would be to speak to both clerks about it and see what they tell you. If the county you are moving to is adjacent to the one you are moving from, you may not need to change your permit county.

Yeah my old county is three hours away.

Up here they give out unrestricted pretty easy according to my brother in law who is a sherrif. We will just need to roll the dice so to speak.

Don't transfer anything. Fill out an amendment form with your change of address.

I went from Niagara to Schenectady in 2015. I went to Niagara Clerks office before I moved, they mailed everything to Schenectady Clerk and then Schenectady clerk called me approx a month later to setup an appointment to change over. I was worried Schenectady wouldn't honor my unrestricted but I had had it for 5 years and they didn't give me any issues, process was smooth for NY government work. Niagara County did issue me a new license with my new Schenectady county address as well after they processed and mailed my paperwork. I am assuming I could have just updated my address and kept it in Niagara County but I'm not driving 10 hours round trip for each amendment.

Thing is if I do that every time I buy a pistol I would have to drive three hours to get an amendment and then becuae ulster makes you wait almost month to get the amendment I would have to go back down.

Just wanted to see if I could avoid that. We will have to see what the clerk says Tuesday I guess.

Its a New York State license. Your duty is to notify them of change of address. When you buy a new pistol, file an amendment with your new local pistol permit office.

They're going to handle their administrative bullshit however they feel like at the time. Don't try and do their work for them.

If they want you to jump through more hoops, they'll let you know - they're good like that.

You need to contact the the licensing office in the County you are moving to about how they want you to proceed!
