i'm really tired of this double standard crap ..
I read the article and clicked on the link about how such a plan would save cities money. This claim is not based on the experience of cities that have such sites. Instead it is based on computer programs with assumptions about how the sites would prevent x number of HIV/Hepatitis C patients per year but only one overdose death every 4 years. I am not convinced. I know enough about statistical models to question the whole approach. If there are cities in Canada that currently have such sites they should be able to share the actual "cost savings" they have experienced. If they have not it's a safe bet there are no cost savings and that's why they came up with a model to make this claim.
I have no idea how to solve this problem. I do believe a govt injection site officially endorses this type of activity and makes it permanent. Left unspoken is what happens to the neighborhoods around these sites. What happens when all the junkies congregate in one place? I'm sure the local populace loves the impact on property values.
