As a worker of a few jobs, the lack of workers isn't the fact that there are lack of people. There are plenty of people. It's just their attitude regarding work.

Another problem I see is the hiring processes like computerized hiring and subsequent things like these websites like Indeed. I still believe companies should hire people old school. You want to work for them, you snail mail or email your job app, or you walk in and talk to the boss. Not these bastardized online applications that are so informal it's not funny.

My main job, I've been on a few "searches" and the garbage that comes into these job apps is astounding. The boss doesn't want to deal with going through it so they throw it to us minions.

Before all of this, hiring people was a lot easier AND less to sort through.

My son has put in like 5-6 applications and he only received one response and that was you don’t fit what we’re looking for at this time. He has limited availability so pretty much all college student are excluded from jobs at this point. Most places around us were hearing want a minimum of 3-5 shifts per week. Problem is my son’s college schedule sucks so he goes to school all over the place. Some classes are held on Thursdays and the work is due Friday. Most professor s seem to assign work during the week and want it done Friday but don’t grade it for weeks and if that’s the case they should give the kids the weekends.
Lots of places have hiring signs up but none are. I just asked someone I know that works retail and she said yeah the signs up but we’re cutting everyone’s hours because we’re still flooded with holiday staff.

Last week I was trying to pay for something and they were making it difficult. So I told the woman, "I'm trying to give you my money, and you're making it difficult. Where is the sense in that?"

No such thing as a staffing shortage. Pay more. I assure you that will resolve your "shortage". Personally I wouldn't even get out of bed for less than $35 an hour.

Sure you don't owe me a job, but I also don't owe you to work for less than I'm willing to sell my labor.

I had a small general contracting business from the mid '70s to late '90s, 4-5 employees. As it was, sometimes a guy would quit or I'd fire someone, and would look for a replacement. No way in hell I'd have hired someone based solely on a resume or on-line application. I always did a sit down with the person and get a feel for him. We mostly worked on or in peoples homes, and sometimes businesses. So honesty, decent appearance, and manors counted with me.

Shit, with shizhispantz at the helm, there are plenty of people in the US to hire. No worker shortage at all as long as knowing the English language, and no background check or references are necessary. Go Brandon...

And yet Airfares are up, bookings are up domestically...perhaps if our economy wasn't tanking and the rest of World wasn't turning to a substandard shit-hole with looming threats of WWIII people might actually want to visit other Countries.
