VP40 and Stupid Columbus Day

Bought a VP40 on Friday so I am kind of excited about that. That was until I realized that the clerk's office is closed today. Lame... Along with that I have to travel down to the city the next two days so I wont be able to pick the thing up until Thursday now. Oh well good things come to those that wait I suppose.

I looked over other posts about Alien Gear. I never really liked the look of their holsters and have heard mixed reviews on them. Over the weekend a few people told me they use and like them.

As I will need a holster for the new VP40 I might be considering taking another look at the Alien Gear stuff instead of my old standby leather OWB holsters. Their $100 system offers customizations for IWB and OWB so I like that but I am on the fence with changing holster types after using leather OWB holsters nearly all my life.

So give me your thoughts people.
Who uses the Alien Gear holsters and likes them and why?
Who has used Alien Gear holsters and found them to be stupid and gimmick like and why?

Perhaps it’s just the people I interact with, but nobody I know that carries a gun regularly uses an alien gear holster or any hybrid holster for that matter.

My wife has a alien gear.....I don’t care for it. I have a Harry’s holster and really like it. My wife like it also and we plan on getting her a Harry’s also

I have a few. Work for what they are. Wont blow me or make me dinner but it carrys my gun.

I have a Comp-tac leather and kydex holster. It took awhile for it to break in and for me to find just the right cant but now I forget it’s there. My girl has an alien gear The neoprene backing is very comfortable but the backing is reinforced with a piece of metal and this makes the holster too stiff to conform to her hip. I’ve tried it and it felt very bulky. I have a 34” waist. A larger waist may find it more comfortable

I have the alien gear system and find it useful. The modularity is a nice feature. You can swap shells for different pistols without buying a new holster for each gun. The soft neoprene material makes them comfy. Useful, affordable and modular so what’s not to like?

That said I don’t have a ton of other holsters so I don’t have much to compare to. I’d much rather put my Kimber in a nice leather holster than any type of kydex.

Inside carry is for beer gut retention.. i like owb..
Im happy with the Turkish leather paddle holster from MASC for my vp9, . Also bought a Blackhawk serpa that fits the vp9 and the Glock.
Ps, My city gave the workers a choice of Columbus Day or the Friday after Thanksgiving...

Have several, including the latest "system". I have both Left and Right hand IWB, and they have lasted far better than expected. I carry EVERY day and am very happy with how comfortable it is. I also like the shell exchange for shipping and new ones for $12 I think (been a while), although I have only exchanged 1 so far (sold a gun / bought a gun). No complaints so far!
I had 1 wrinkle with a 1911 holster shell that didn't fit right (Sig Sauer 1911-22) so they sent me 2 more for free, and said I didn't have to return the first one. New one fit, and the other 2 fit my SA Loaded 1911 A1 in .45 perfect.

I bought one Alien Gear holster a while back. Eh, neither here no there. I still have it, just don't use it.

I bought a Blade Tech for my VP9 and I love it.
