VP9 or PPQ or Both?

Since I'm going stir crazy waiting for this pistol permit process to be over (my references were just called two days ago after just short of 14 months), I've been looking at many potential pistols for my first one, which will likely be my primary range, training and home defense gun. As such, I've been visiting stores to handle as many as I can. The VP9 is the front-runner as it feels great in my hands but I've never fired it. Today, I held the PPQ M2 for the first time. Never fired that one eithe, but it felt nice too. Man, that trigger was smooth as silk! I can't help but notice, however that they are incredibly similar. Would it be redundant to have both of these? Eventually, I'd like to have similar iterations from many manufacturers, but this is almost like the same gun.

The PPQ M2 was originally my first choice, but when I got my license, they were sold out in my area, long story short, I bought the VP9 instead. Personally, other than the shape of the slide, both are very similar, especially when you compared the VP9 to the PPQ M1 with the peddle magazine release. Now, I wouldn't give up the peddle magazine release over a button. It actually feels more natural than pushing a button. In terms of trigger feel, I think the PPQ is a bit lighter, not by much. As far as getting both, I was too thinking about it, but ultimately decided against it, at least for the moment. I think having more variety is more important for me at the moment. The PPQ, which was an evolution from the P99 (my fav, I own 4), is as nice a striker fired pistol as you can buy.

The VP9 and Sig 320 are copies. (As are many more.)

Better for you? Perhaps.

Hahaha, you mistake me for someone who is patient enough to do that. My patience went out the window at twelve months, lol. I already bought a Glock 43. I've fired that one before and liked it, so it's waiting for me to pick it once I get that little plastic card from the county.

This does help. I noticed the same thing with the button mag release. I like the ambidextrous ones on most guns cuz I typically don't have to adjust my grip at all with those. The M2 that I held had the button, but was placed nicely so there was minimal hand adjustment to depress it. I'd imagine the paddle on the M1 would be that much better. I held the Ruger American and unless it had an ambidextrous release, there would be no way I would be able to depress that tiny button with my thumb.

PPQ but only if it's an M1 with the magazine release on the sides of the trigger guard. Once you get use to those there's nothing like them.

A sweep of the trigger finger gets the job done while maintaining sights on target.

I have a S&W 99OL that has a frame made by Walther and I love those magazine releases.

Huh? P320 and VP9 copies? Hardly. More like PPQ and VP are copies. He'll looking at the both I'd say they were brothers. And if not for being hammer fired they both copied the HK P30. All great choices.

@Darth I don't think that one can claim the P320 and VP9 copied the Walther anymore than the three of them copied glock. Both the HK and Sig are adaptations of hammer guns to striker unlike the PPQ/P99 which was always a striker design.

I have the VP9 and I absolutely love it.

Too me, it is one of those guns that fit my, my hand and my way of shooting perfectly.

I have zero complaints with this gun. I love the trigger, it just feels "right".

That's how the overall feel of the gun is to me as well. And that's with all medium size back and side straps on the ones I've been holding. Even guys with big hands say they often put small panels on, so I imagine it would feel even better then.

No PPQ is considered "compact" in the same size category as the Glock 19 though the PPQ is a bit taller than the G19. VP9 is a full, duty sized gun.
The biggest difference is in length.

When I first got my permit letter I got a chance to hold both the VP9 and the PPQ M2. Both felt great in my hands but I couldn't get the feel for the paddle release on the VP9 ( just like anything, with practice/time I'm sure I'd get use to it, muscle memory). The button release on the PPQ M2 was in a good spot and not obstructive. So I went with the PPQ M2. The trigger is very smooth. right out of the box she has taken different kinds of ammo I've put thru her with no problem. I also picked up the .22 version of the PPQ M2 for target/plinking, same controls and set up. Very happy with both of them.

IMO the vp9 and ppq are so close I wouldnt want both. I shot the ppq a little better.

I'm debating the VP 9,PPQ and the CZ now. Right now the CZ is leading the pack for me.

The P10c looks like an awesome gun. Read a couple reviews and they're all glowing. Will probably be a while until they're readily available though. I held both the FNX and FNS 9mm's thinking I'd like them a lot, but they felt like one of those sandpaper sponge blocks in my hands. I was disappointed, cuz I've heard good things about those guns. I hope the CZ doesn't feel the same way.

How many rounds do you consider "shooting the hell out of"?

I see an awful lot of used pistols listed with "500 rounds shot" or people who have a gun for years with only a thousand. In fact I bet that's the majority.

Didn't know that. When I think of compact, I think M&P 9c, Ruger American compact, Shield, etc that are notably smaller.

Those are all considered "sub compact" guns. Compact guns are only a bit smaller than full size, the intent being to provide the smallest gun that yet provides a full, four fingered grip. Sub compacts generally provide, with the flush magazines, only a three finger grip.

They come with a medium shell. You can buy the other sizes. Nice thing is you can slap on a Sub-compact shell on it also for CCW if you wish. They have different color options also.

I own the PPQ m2 VP9 and the Sig p320 (compact medium ). I like all 3 guns They fit my hand very well . They all shoot very well .. That said the P320 is my carry gun on most occasions . You cannot go wrong with any of them

^ Well, that settles it then. Lol. I'll get both. A big plus, as AK68 mentioned is the PPQ 22 for cheap, translatable practice. This was one of the reasons I was considering the Sig P250 cuz it could be had in both 9mm and 22lr, but the exchange kits are hard to find and almost as much as an entire new gun.
