Where do we stand in the current legal wrangle with our carry rights.
I will start by saying I keep a pretty close eye on 2A rights both here in NY and throughout the nation. I am lost at this point as to where we are in the post Bruen clusterfuck of lawsuits, rulings, injunctions, etc. Any state source is usually woefully behind the current rulings (by purpose so we won't exercise our rights). Please help inform me of what's good and what's not.
As far as I know post Bruen and CCIA, we are now allowed to carry into businesses that are open to the public generally unless otherwise posted. Can you carry in a bank? Hospital/Medical? I believe most govt. owned property is still a no go zone. Bars are still off limits for carry, but are restaurants that serve alcohol can be carried in? With the new ruling regarding NY having to offer non-resident permits, can NYS permit holders outside NYC now carry in NYC or do we also have to beg NYPD for permission? If a NYC permit is required do we have to jump through all the hoops again?
Part of the lack of information is the state really likes to suppress any freedoms that we may have taken back through litigation. Most 2A news sources (even the ones doing a great job) often conflate and confuse NYS and NYC when discussing cases. To add to the confusion is the legal wrangling where we may have a victory one day only for it to be enjoined or stayed only days later. Also when NYC takes a loss, our government at the state level tends to ignore it for the rest of the states citizens and vice versa. According to the govt. sites you still need to get a NYC endorsement to carry there but those who hold a permit down there can carry statewide. How is this even a thing? Isn't NYC part of the state? How can there not be a challenge to this on both 2A grounds as well as equal protection under the law? Is there a suit in the works?
I know that some will comment with the concealed is concealed trope or I can carry where I want in South Western Bumfuck (move out of NY) However I live here as do many members of the forum and need to navigate as legally as possible. I appreciate everyones input.
