Which PCP rifle ?

I keep looking at a couple of the big bore PCP air rifles, but don't really know much about them. If I spend that kind of cash on one, I don't want to buy junk. I keep looking at a couple models from Hatsan and Umarex, most likely in .45 or .50 caliber.

Anyone care to educate/advise me on the big bore PCP's ? What other manufacturers are out there that I should be looking at ? Who should I stay away from ?

You cant beat Airforce for accuracy, I hit mice at 100 yards with a 22 cal. I only took head shots on rats , it would just pin them , no hopping flopping or runnning just TWACK. Had a German Lothar Walther match grade barrel and a legal silencer . ( silencers are legal for air rifles ) Great rifles

they also come in 45 , and I think 9mm.

I bought a cheaper Uramex and it broke very quickly. I contacted them and they said they would repair it or replace it and I had to jump through a bunch of stupid hoops. They came back and said no in the end and I got about 3 months out of it. Not sure this relates to your product but the one I had was a known issue for them because it was all over the internet. My model and your model are likely at different price points so keep that in mind.

Which PCP, depends on what do you want to do with it. Each airgun requires maitenance specific to that gun. That's the hard part about keeping them running. They work well in the beginning but eventually seals or valves or other parts need to be replaced. There is a learning curve for each airgun. YouTube helps half of the time.

All depends on amount of usage and age of the rubber seals. I shoot air rifle almost every day as part of my training. Have to change seals every year or two. Also rubber doesn't age well and will eventually deteriorate.

This gun punches holes in the pots and pans that I have hanging from the trees 150' away, in my backyard. Takes 125 pumps to fill gun and then it is good for 40 shots. Comes with 2 ten pellet magazines. I bought this gun as it came with gun and pump in kit all for under $400.

I got a bunch of PCP big bore rifles. I prefer .50 cal.

One thing that is most important is how you fill them. You need a reliable high pressure air source and a good desiccant system the bigger the tanks are. Small cylinders like on Benjamin Marauders and pistols, you don't really need to worry about moisture -- too much. Hand pumps are fine.

The bigger you go the more water can get into the system causing problems.

My go-to is my Hill EC-3000 with a custom desiccant system I got in parts and pieces from things, and talking to Joe Broncato. Joe does a lot of work with SpaceX btw. Man knows his way around extreme pressures. Stuff that puts shivers down my spine even thinking about in terms of insane pressures.

I also got a Daystate that I primarily use for tanks. I made a large volume dessicant system for that.

To me filling them is like reloading. Get quality and it'll last, and it'll take care of your air guns too.

I used to like tanks, but I had some scary experiences with tanks... I have a few in-service tanks (still within inspection dates). But I don't use them unless I really, really need to.

I shoot .177 pellets and can get away with a hand pump. It's a workout, but one fill lasts me 4-7 days. Hill hand pump with air dryer is very good quality. Pumps and compressors also have to be maintained.

A Diana Stormrider just came home, and it's very light...it was "used" but as new in the Box but missing the fill pin that connects to the female coupling of the compressor/pump and inserts through the fill port of the PCP....The only place I've even seen that part offered was a web site in England, and going to the Diana Website it's in German and not even shown, so I may be SOL for a while...might be able to turn one on the lathe.

There are aftermarket filling probes for most PCPs. They are even better than what comes with the airgun, because they incorporate male quick connect end. If you have more than one PCP, quick connect adaptor is a must have.

Stay away from cheap pumps, lots of complaints about them.

Is there a cheap mechanical pump that anyone could recommend?

Outside the obvious design, all the Hand Pumps I've seen looked exactly the same, came with spare seals and other small pieces...I bought one, and used it for the Marauder and it kicked my ass. ('course I have a debilitating Heart condition) It can be done, but it takes a while, and is hard to compress air to 2-3 thousand pounds of pressure (a bicycle Tire is 30 pounds, and even a Heavy Truck is only around 110 psi.
