It is not a thing down here as open carry is legal in the Carolinas. Unfortunately, back in New Yorkistan, - not so much.

I had my guns seized for 6 months after my ex-wife and her boyfriend called my local PD to ask whether or not I had a CCW permit. And an asshole there told them (in violation of NY law) that I did. They then showed up at my home (after they had been told to stay away) and when I went outside on my own property they began screaming that I had a gun, and called 911, even though I had in no manner whatsoever menaced them, - or in any manner even admitted or in any way printed or did anything else that alluded that I even owned a handgun, or was carrying. (Which I was).

Maybe this guy menaced them, and maybe he didn't. We'll see.

But in my own personal experience, it doesn't take much of anything for assholes to make trouble for licensed CCW holders in NY.

Nowhere in this story are the details of the incident. How many were there, that he was arguing with? Were they similar to him? Same age, same race, same size? Was he in fear of being maimed or harmed?

I hate stories with no details.
