Some deserve to go broke. My x-wife worked at Onondaga Community College (OCC) in Syracuse for better than 25 years. She would often mention the $waste$ by the school president and some her/his crony's, plus the pandering to the needs (wants) of certain groups of students. She is SOOO happy to be gone from there.

I’m not surprised. Look what aunt spends money on a freaking huge gaming room and DEI up the rear end. They make my son who goes to UB take the stupid don’t rape people training all the time. He has to take it monthly or something and it’s ridiculous. The cost to run that campus must be huge and so much waste.

People used to go to college for an education.

It was quite reasonably priced for what you got.

Now people go for a diploma, and they're getting ripped off.

Depends what you’re doing. You can make good money in the trades or what you did without using your degree. I need my degree for my job as does my wife. My wife is going for a new position now and if she gets it she’d get over a 50% raise. That’s not possible without her PhD. Just a rough guess though that 30% of college degrees are absolutely useless and another 30% probably never get used.

Teachers up until the last 25 years, all that was needed was a certificate. Now, all kinds of degrees are needed. Hell, any one just about can be a teacher in most areas of study.

I got a buddy that has a job of importance with his company, has no degree and does a great job, has had the job for quite some time. He would not get that today due to the lack of a degree.

The words need and want are very different. Many of these jobs, there is not a need for a degree, there is a want.

Look at the military, all those very high tech jobs, positions of great leadership.... no degree needed.

Americans have soaked up all kinds of propaganda.

Not just Americans, it's also companies.

My friend is very skilled with databases and IT tech, yet is limited in what jobs he can get because almost all require, at a minimum, a Bachelors Degree. Even after 20 years of experience.

Yet I can get a job in tech easily with a biology degree.

I agree. I guess we should differentiate between needed and required. I was referring to my job and her job both require a degree. My job could mostly be all on the job training but a higher level science understanding would definitely help but my job is all in black and white written down.
My wife’s job requires a PhD and it is probably needed for her to do her job for various reasons.
You do not need a degree to be a cop but it’s required for the most part. I’d say the same with most FBI jobs but if you’re in forensics, or some cyber crimes/white collar crimes a computer degree or accounting degree would help.
The issue is there is so much BS that goes into a degree now that is not needed. Many electives and other crap. Most entry level jobs want a degree now but mostly it is not needed but required for some reason.

The policies for corporations, companies, and agencies I had worked for all seemed to have a process where, on a case by case basis, most positions could justify dropping position description college degree expectations after a hiring manager submitted a justification based on an applicants experience or qualifications that would be approved. Mandated licenses or certifications were driven by legal or regulatory requirements.

Most salary and benefit models also equated the value of undergraduate (Associates or Bachelors) or graduate degrees (Masters or Doctorate) as one year of education being equal to one year of experience.
