So, one of my kids told me about this. When I did a search, it is ALL OVER the news outlets, - mainstream and others. As it happens, two gay guys living together (in a home with a basement in the trendy Allentown neighborhood in the City of Buffalo) were killed when a man broke into their basement through a window. Both men were later found dead from "blunt force injuries" in their basement, and the suspected perp was arrested, after he was found on the property, and proceeded to cut himself when the cops showed up. Some outlets reported him as homeless, others now saying he lived on Massachusetts Ave in Buffalo.
What is interesting to me about this, is that the authorities in Buffalo have gone out of their way to assure the public that these two men were NOT killed because they were gay. Yet, virtually EVERY single news article that I found went to great lengths to write about the gay side of it: how one or both were artists; how devastating this is to the gay and transgender community, and on and on, and on. They even brought up some new LGBTQ+ acronym beginning with "2S". WTF is that? I can't keep up.
I get it, - it's sad for their families. But typically when your average husband and wife get killed in some similar circumstance, the whole media world doesn't go wild reporting how devastated the local community is. Just somewhat different reporting is what I'm saying.
Bottom line as I see it, is if you live in an area that is not overly safe (such as in a cramped city, as opposed to a relatively safer suburb), three things: 1. Secure your premises to the maximum extent possible. 2.Take additional steps to protect yourself, and 3. When shit goes bump unexpectedly in your home, - think before wandering into the unknown, and if you're at all concerned, - call 911 immediately to have the cops to come have a look see. That's what we pay them for.
