The Oneida County Sheriff's Office said a man was arrested after their weapon fell out of their pocket on a fair ride.

I’m not one to speculate. But why would he not go after his gun? Perhaps he was drinking? No idea. Someone on this board must know the guy but why would you not go back for your gun. And if anyone says, “maybe he didn’t know he lost it,” I won’t say “then maybe he should not have a gun.”

Dang shame. Don’t know him but clearly not criminal of the year but now he is. I hope it goes to a jury trial and the jury takes matters into their own hands. I’d find him not guilty of criminal possession of a weapon. He has a permit.

I hope he`s not a implant by some anti-gun organization of some sort to have a fake "GOT`CHA" moment. How well are the police known in that area, are they hard-asses? Seems they could have just got ahold of the guy and give him a warning and give him his firearm back, IF, he has a permit. Do we even know for sure that he even has a permission slip from the government to have a firearm? I dunno, seems there is a lot more to this story than what has been reported. A lot of " we don`t know what we don`t know" with this story. I`ll wait to see what plays out. If this was dirty, it will disappear in a flash.

The only "justifiable" reason for a gun-free zone is when there is overriding security ie: government buildings where everyone walks through a metal detector and there is a large police presence. Even then, the Erie County Hall allows you to check your weapon at the door lest you have to walk the streets downtown unarmed. All these gun free zones without force protection in place create are soft targets

Holy shit, am I on a gun-grabber forum? Have we learned nothing? Opening the door to gun control is akin to opening the floodgates.

You guys aren't wrong, per se: some people are too stupid to have guns. But, give the government the right to make that distinction and pretty soon, everyone will be too stupid to have guns. That's how this game works, that's how it has always worked. Ensuring the freedom of the people means we need to accept that some subset of the people will have freedoms we might prefer they do not.

There are a lot of people too stupid to be allowed to vote, or speak freely, yet I will defend to death their right to do so. The same applies to all of our freedoms.

The slippery slope argument is only a fallacy if you're not already halfway down the slope. As it stands today, we have to ask permission to exercise our rights, wait some indeterminate period measured in months or years, then face potential felony charges for exercising that right in certain locations. That right can be stripped from us without due process from even the most baseless of accusations. This is what happens when we decide to allow the exclusion of certain groups from free exercise of their rights. There's a reason it says "shall not be infringed"... our forefathers saw this game being played over 200 years ago.

Well this is NY so SCOTUS opinions and ruling are optional. If it went down and written, a sign is a request at best and any good lawyer will get this man out of it but the cost to him the victory for the State and a lesson to us all.

That's why anyone who isn't convicted of every charge they are indicted for should be compensated for their time dealing with every acquittal or plea bargain.
