Unless he had the gun and drugs right there on top of the passenger's seat in plain sight, why was the car searched?
There are dozens of possible reasons for the search. Hell, he may be a really stupid guy and he allowed the search.
There may have been a K9 on scene and the dog picked up a scent.
There may have been things in plain sight.
Too many reasons to list!
